15th Annual Women of Substance Luncheon The 15th Annual Women of Substance luncheon was held on Friday May 14, 2010 at the Audubon Tea Room. Over 300 people attended the event and were treated to a delicious lunch, music from Mike Morris and the Tom Fitzpatrick Jazz Trio, a fashion show compliments of Banana Republic, and beautiful table decorations designed by Gayle Jones and friends. Mark Romig was the Master of Ceremonies as well as the auctioneer and preformed both tasks with amazing skill. Women of the Renewal was the theme for this year’s luncheon. The very deserving honorees were Madeline West, Denise Thornton and Ruthie Frierson. Grace House was thrilled to have these remarkable women participate in our Women of Substance luncheon. Marilyn McConnell was honored with the volunteer service award. Ms. McConnell is affectionately known as the “duck lady” for her dedication to our residents for taking them to the park to enjoy the wonders of nature and to feed the ducks. She is truly a wonderful volunteer. The last honoree, our alumnae of the year, is very special. She is Emily Kingston, and her remarks to the crowd were inspiring, bringing home the true message of Grace House and our program. Grace House thanks our two chairpersons Catherine Shreeves and Walton Goldring, the entire women of substance committee, all the volunteers, and staff for a job well done. This year’s event raised more funds than the previous years to support the mission of Grace House. The 15th Annual Women of Substance was a wonderful event which helps Grace House celebrate twenty five years of assisting women in maintaining sobriety and leading productive lives.
